Dry Needling

Dry Needling is a technique using acupuncture needles to help with myofascial pain and trigger point pain. A small needle is inserted into the skin and just below to the areas of pain and trigger points. These are areas of tight/contracted muscles that disrupt movement and proper function, as well as, create areas of local pain. The dry needling then decreases the tightness, increases blood flow, and decreases local pain. Dry needling is different from acupuncture. It does not use Eastern medicine and does not follow the acupuncture meridians. It is focused on musculoskeletal issues and pain management. It can be used for a variety of conditions: neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain, hip pain, knee pain, and so much more. It is minimally invasive and most often used in conjunction with rehab and chiropractic adjustments. Common questions are will it hurt? It is minimally painful, as the needle will be inserted into the tight muscles and tissue. Are there any side effects? There may be some soreness after the treatment and possible minor bruising. Those who are afraid of needles, have blood disorders or are on blood thinners, pregnant, have any infections or skin disorders should not have dry needling.
