PFPT can help people of all genders, including children, and can be used for a variety of conditions, such as:

  • Pregnancy and postpartum issues
  • Pelvic cancer rehabilitation
  • Neurologic and neuromuscular disorders
  • Post-surgical incontinence
  • Chronic pelvic pain
  • Bedwetting / Constipation
  • Abdominal pain / Testicular pain
  • Bladder pain
  • Urgency / Frequency / Incontinence of bowel or bladder
  • Low back/hip pain not resolved with standard treatments

What it does:

PFPT can help with a variety of pelvic floor issues, including incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and chronic pelvic pain. It can also help with sexual function, core stability, and joint alignment.

An assessment of pelvic floor / core strength is done to determine if kegels are needed or if the person may benefit more from relaxation exercises.

Constipation can be successfully treated with various manual techniques, education in how to relax muscles and bowel training along with particular focus on nutrition, fluid intake and breathing.

How it works

A physical therapist will teach you exercises, relaxation techniques, and other methods to strengthen, relax, and coordinate your pelvic floor muscles. These methods may include:

  • Manual therapy, such as trigger point release
  • Biofeedback
  • Electrical stimulation
  • Behavioral education
  • Posture correction
  • Assessment of pelvic floor muscles
